Walmer Road Residential

This existing building, currently used as offices near Clarendon Cross in Holland Park, has been entrusted to architect/lecturer Peter Salter to make proposals for a new development of four houses.

Set on a new plinth with underground parking, the houses will share a communal garden. Traditional individual property demarcation is also foregone as each house twists and turns, interlocking with its neighbours, sharing a vocabulary of timber screens and oriels. This unusual design is envisaged by the architect as a deliberate but organic growth: a tool that maximises each property's potential and chases the sunlight throughout the day.
